OUR CONVERSATIONS

For the last few months I have had the privilege of interacting with a peer group from Vidya School. Our conversations have been fun, informative and freewheeling. Together we have laughed, learned and discovered that our differences, however distant, help bring us closer.

INDIA AND ITS SPORTS

Our session together kicked off with a high energy conversation about sports and its significance in our daily lives. This conversation was a harbinger of things to come - we formed a team that was forged in mutual respect and a desire to explore new worlds together!

INDIA AND ITS FESTIVALS

India is an amalgamation of various languages, ethnicities and cultures. This rich diversity is apparent in the various festivals that we celebrate. We spent an entire session discussing the origin and significance of our celebrations, with a special focus on Raksha Bandhan - the festival of sibling love!

THE DEFENCE SERVICES

We spent the maximum amount of time discussing the different arms of the Indian Defence Forces. Learning about the history, the missions, the charismatic leaders, and of course the awesome weapons was great fun. We even talked about how to apply to and enter the defence services. Maybe, soon, one of the Vidya School children will become our Field Marshall!

FRIENDSHIP

The first session we shared- It was all about making new friends and sharing our stories. To understand the significance of friends better, we also looked back at stories of friendships in Indian mythology.

INDIA & ITS SPORTS

It was during our conversation about sports that we started coming together as a team. We talked about the various sports that we play and discussed some Indian athletes'  inspirational stories.

INDIA & ITS FESTIVALS

The session was all about India's rich cultural diversity and how the myriad festivals ensure that the country celebrates all year long.

INDIA & ITS LITERATURE

The depth of India's literature is immense, and traces back thousands of years. To understand literature and English better, we explored Hindi "dohas" and their similar English proverbs in this session.

INDIA & ITS CUISINES

The diversity of India naturally leads to many foods. During our conversation, we talked about the one common link in all these different cuisines- the importance of sustainable, environment friendly food.

INDIAN ARMY

In our session, we shared stories of the bravery and the missions of the Indian Army. Moving from Bollywood to the Ladakh highlands, we discussed the honour and the perils of being in the Indian Army.

INDIAN NAVY

With thousand of kilometres of coastline, the importance of the navy cannot be undermined. During our session, we explored the meaning of the statement, "Safe Seas for a Strong Nation."

INDIAN AIR FORCE

With India's rapidly expanding Defence Technology, the Indian Air Force is becoming the backbone of the Forces. Our conversation was all about the historic missions and the unadulterated bravery of our Air Force Pilots.

INDIAN SPECIAL FORCES

Who knew that every arm of the service had their own special, covert forces- the elite of the elite! Our session this week had everyone's spine tingling and hair standing!

PLANETS

During our session, we truly went where no man has ever been! We journeyed into the inter stellar world, learning about our nearest planetary neighbours as well as the furthest ones that compromise our solar system.

BLACK HOLES

Did you know that when you fall into a black hole, you get "spaghettified"? Our conversation this week was all about discovering more about black holes and finding answers to mind boggling questions about these fascinating regions.

STARS AND CONSTELLATIONS

Astrology and astronomy are completely linked, even though once is all about science and the other is all about faith. To understand the interdependence of the two, we learnt about stars, constellations and zodiac signs in this session.

ALL ABOUT ITALY

The soccer shoe of Europe, Italy is a fascinating country with a rich history in arts, culture, food, music and of course romance. In this session, we talked about things that make Italy unique and some of its most fascinating cities.

NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS AROUND THE WORLD

Happy new year may be a common term around the world but the date is not necessarily the same. During our conversation this week, we talked about the unique ways in which people celebrate the onset of the new year.
